FEBRUARY
Apex Boys Compete at Mid-Atlantic Invitational – Hunter, Callan & Chase take 1st Place AA
The Apex Boys competed at the University of Maryland on February 27 and 28, at the Mid-Atlantic Invitational. Level 5 was the 1st Place Team (again) out of 12 teams. Level 4 was the 3rd Place Team out of 16 teams.
Hunter, level 9, Callan, level 5, and Chase, level 5, took top honors with 1st Place All-around. Congratulations! There were also several 1st place event winners: Chester was 1st on Vault. Nathan was 1st on P-Bars, Callan was 1st on Rings and P-Bars. Chase was 1st on Pommel Horse, Vault, P-Bars and High Bar. There were many podium finishers. For complete results, go to:

Apex Boys Divide And Conquer – Alex Takes 1st In 2 Events at Pacific Coast Classic!
The Apex Boys Team split into two the weekend of February 19-21. Some boys travel to Oakland, California for the Pacific Coast Classic and competed against boys from 75 other gyms. The meet also featured event finals for the level 9 and 10 gymnasts, who then competed with elite and college gymnasts. Other boys stayed closer to home, and competed at the Youth Sports Presidents’ Day Invitational in Woodbridge, Virginia.
At the Pacific Coast Classic, Alex placed 1st on Floor Exercise and High Bar. Way to go! He qualified to event finals in 3 events: FX, P-Bars, and High Bar. Hunter was 7th on Pommel Horse and 10th on Rings and qualified to event finals in both events. In the first of two level 10 sessions, Aaron placed 3rd on Vault and 5th on Floor Exercise, qualifying for event finals in both of those events. Callan was 3rd on Rings and High Bar. Ian was 3rd on Pommel Horse. Matthew, Kyle and Monty also competed in this large field. More results are available at http://www.usa-sports.org/results.htm
At the Presidents’ Day Invitational, Chris was 1st AA, and 1st on FX, Rings, Vault and P-Bars. Nathan was 2nd AA, and 1st on Pommel Horse and Rings. Chase was 1st AA and on every event! Scott was 3rd AA and Logan was 5th. Austin was 2nd AA with a 1st place on Rings. Jackson was 1st on FX and High Bar. Tanner was 1st on Vault. Paul was 1st on Pommel Horse and Rings. JANUARY
Apex Boys Teams Takes On The Brian Babcock Invitational The Apex Boys Team traveled to Allentown, PA for the Brian Babcock Invitational. Level 5 once again lead the way, with 2nd Place (out of 20 teams). Chase C. and Callan C. took the top All-Around spots. Chase also placed 1st on Pommel Horse, Rings and High Bar. Callan placed 1st on Floor, Pommel Horse and High Bar. Level 4 was close behind, with 3rd Place. Paul S. was 1st on Vault. There were many podium finishes. Congratulations to everyone! Apex Boys started off 2010 with a strong showing at the Jerrell Steele Winter Blast Invitational in Richmond, VA. The Level 5 team continued its success with another 1ST Place. The Level 9 boys were right behind them with a 2nd Place trophy. The individual 1st Place All-Around finishers were Chase C., Callan C., Alex S. and Aaron M. There were many 1st Place Event winners:

Aaron Meland received the “Man of Steel” Honor Award on January 9, 2010, at the Jerrell Steele Winter Blast Invitational in Richmond, VA. The “Man of Steel” award is given in memory of gymnast and coach Jerrell Steele to one gymnast each year who best exemplifies excellence in gymnastics, dedication to the sport, sportsmanship and perseverance over obstacles, as voted by all the judges and coaches in attendance. Aaron is a Level 10 gymnast on the Apex Boys Team. He is coached by Vladimir Shamenko and Denise Rowell.
The Apex Boys Team had another terrific showing at their December competition at the Baltimore-Washington Invitational. The Level 5 team took 1st place. The Level 4 Team took 4th place. And the Optional Boys (levels 8-10) took 3rd place. Congratulations boys! The Apex Boys Team kicked off the competition season with a bang at the Tim Weaver Invitiational in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Level 5 took the top honors with 1st Place. Levels 4 and 9 each took 3rd Place. There were many individual awards, including 1st Place All-around titles for Chase Clingman, Callan Cardaer, and 1st Place event titles went to Ian Sicking (pommel horse, high bar) Chester DeWolfe (vault), Alex Shamenko (high bar), Aaron Meland (floor, vault).
