Congratulations J.O. National Qualifiers and Region VII Podium Finishers

The Apex Boy Team (levels 7-10) competed at the Region VII Championships at USMA, West Point, NY on April 17-18.

Aaron, Hunter and Kyle qualified to compete at the J.O. National Championships in Knoxville, TN the May 5-9. Congratulations!

Congratulations Apex Boys Level 5 State & Regional Champions The APEX Level 5 Boys team were crowned Regional Champions after competing against teams from 7 states in the Compulsory Region VII Championships, April 10-11, 2010. The boys competed against over 200 other boys from Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and West Virginia. This same group of boys went undefeated in the season when they captured the Virginia State Championships two weeks ago in Richmond. In addition, Chase Clingman won the Regionial All Around title. Congratulations to all the Level 5 boys on a terrific season. Placement results are listed below:

Chase Clingman - 1st all around, 1^st Place on Pommel Horse and High Bar.

Logan Voegele - 3^rd on Pommel Horse, 10th all around

Callan Carder – 3^rd All-Around , 3^rd on High Bar.

Jackson Kemper – 13th high bar

Austin Fox – 9th rings

Scott Conrad – 12th all around

FEBRUARY

Apex Boys Compete at Mid-Atlantic Invitational – Hunter, Callan & Chase take 1^st Place AA

The Apex Boys competed at the University of Maryland on February 27 and 28, at the Mid-Atlantic Invitational. Level 5 was the 1^st Place Team (again) out of 12 teams. Level 4 was the 3^rd Place Team out of 16 teams.

Hunter, level 9, Callan, level 5, and Chase, level 5, took top honors with 1^st Place All-around. Congratulations! There were also several 1^st place event winners: Chester was 1^st on Vault. Nathan was 1^st on P-Bars, Callan was 1^st on Rings and P-Bars. Chase was 1^st on Pommel Horse, Vault, P-Bars and High Bar. There were many podium finishers. For complete results, go to:

Apex Boys Divide And Conquer – Alex Takes 1^st In 2 Events at Pacific Coast Classic!

The Apex Boys Team split into two the weekend of February 19-21. Some boys travel to Oakland, California for the Pacific Coast Classic and competed against boys from 75 other gyms. The meet also featured event finals for the level 9 and 10 gymnasts, who then competed with elite and college gymnasts. Other boys stayed closer to home, and competed at the Youth Sports Presidents’ Day Invitational in Woodbridge, Virginia.

At the Pacific Coast Classic, Alex placed 1^st on Floor Exercise and High Bar. Way to go! He qualified to event finals in 3 events: FX, P-Bars, and High Bar. Hunter was 7^th on Pommel Horse and 10^th on Rings and qualified to event finals in both events. In the first of two level 10 sessions, Aaron placed 3^rd on Vault and 5^th on Floor Exercise, qualifying for event finals in both of those events. Callan was 3^rd on Rings and High Bar. At the Presidents’ Day Invitational, Chris was 1^st AA, and 1^st on FX, Rings, Vault and P-Bars. Nathan was 2^nd AA, and 1^st on Pommel Horse and Rings. Chase was 1^st AA and on every event! Scott was 3^rd AA and Logan was 5^th. Austin was 2^nd AA with a 1^st place on Rings. Jackson was 1^st on FX and High Bar. Tanner was 1^st on Vault. Paul was 1^st on Pommel Horse and Rings. JANUARY

Apex Boys Teams Takes On The Brian Babcock Invitational The Apex Boys Team traveled to Allentown, PA for the Brian Babcock Invitational. Level 5 once again lead the way, with 2^nd Place (out of 20 teams). Chase C. and Callan C. took the top All-Around spots. Chase also placed 1^st on Pommel Horse, Rings and High Bar. Callan placed 1^st on Floor, Pommel Horse and High Bar. Level 4 was close behind, with 3^rd Place. Paul S. was 1^st on Vault. There were many podium finishes. Congratulations to everyone! Apex Boys started off 2010 with a strong showing at the Jerrell Steele Winter Blast Invitational in Richmond, VA. The Level 5 team continued its success with another 1^ST Place. The Level 9 boys were right behind them with a 2^nd Place trophy. The individual 1^st Place All-Around finishers were Chase C., Callan C., Alex S. and Aaron M. Aaron Meland received the “Man of Steel” Honor Award on January 9, 2010, at the Jerrell Steele Winter Blast Invitational in Richmond, VA. The “Man of Steel” award is given in memory of gymnast and coach Jerrell Steele to one gymnast each year who best exemplifies excellence in gymnastics, dedication to the sport, sportsmanship and perseverance over obstacles, as voted by all the judges and coaches in attendance. Aaron is a Level 10 gymnast on the Apex Boys Team. He is coached by Vladimir Shamenko and Denise Rowell.

The Apex Boys Team had another terrific showing at their December competition at the Baltimore-Washington Invitational. The Level 5 team took 1^st place. The Level 4 Team took 4^th place. And the Optional Boys (levels 8-10) took 3^rd place. Congratulations boys! The Apex Boys Team kicked off the competition season with a bang at the Tim Weaver Invitiational in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Level 5 took the top honors with 1st Place. Levels 4 and 9 each took 3rd Place. There were many individual awards, including 1st Place All-around titles for Chase Clingman, Callan Cardaer, and 1st Place event titles went to Ian Sicking (pommel horse, high bar) Chester DeWolfe (vault), Alex Shamenko (high bar), Aaron Meland (floor, vault).
