The APEX Gymnastics teams and families came together on May 12, 2017 to participate in the Loudoun Relay for Life at Heritage High School in Leesburg, Virginia. APEX raised $20,000.00 for the event by doing various fundraisers such as giving away a free year of gymnastics, holding open gyms & various team fundraisers and soliciting donations from family and friends.APEX had over 100 team members and several who individually raised over $1000.00! APEX reached the Emerald level of fundraising which few teams ever reach!APEX Team Captain Mark Mohr stated “This event is a wonderful chance for us to give back to our community and to show everyone what APEX is all about! We are so grateful for all of the families who have come together to help support this wonderful cause. This disease touches all of us in some way, and it is important to APEX that we can all stand together for one day and show the athletes that there are things in life that are simply bigger and more important.”APEX is looking forward to Relay 2018 and hopes to have even more team members!
This event is the culmination of months of activity preparing a campsite and raising funds. The event begins in the morning on Saturday and lasts through the night into the morning hours. Team members camp out overnight in their campsites to symbolize the cycle that a cancer patient lives through. They experience dark times and moments of sunshine and hope. There were over 60 teams participating this year. APEX plans to return to Relay next year bigger and better than ever.
